DON'T REGISTER TO VOTE AND WE'LL SCREW YOUR CREDIT RATING

By HARRY BLACKWOOD

I'm regularly told by those who oppose my DON'T VOTE stance that my vote is important. I'm told it's a hard-won democratic right that should be cherished and acted upon?

Well, let's just say for the purposes of debate, that's correct. If it is, the Powers That Be should be so comfortable that they occupy the moral high ground that they'd be happy to allow us to make a personal choice.

If you want to vote do so. Of you don't then it's your choice.

That is certainly not the case. For starters it's illegal not to complete the form you get to enter your details on the electoral register.

Here's the official bullshit:

"You need to be on the electoral register to vote in all UK elections and referendums. You are not automatically registered even if you pay council tax. If you receive a request for your registration information from your local electoral registration office then you are legally obliged to respond. If you do not respond, or if you provide false information, then you could receive a £1,000 fine."

So much for freedom of choice, democracy and all that other worthy stuff that they pay lip service to. Refuse to conform and they'll make a criminal out of you by taking you to court and fining you £1,000.

But it gets worse. Don't go along with what they want and they threaten you.

Here's the pertinent wording from a letter I received on February 12, 2014 after I'd once again failed to fill in the electoral register documents:

"This will prevent them from voting at elections . . . and could affect them financially, as many finance companies use the electoral register to check the names and addresses of people applying for credit."

So there you have it in a nutshell. They are so desperate for you to take part in their corrupt and totally rigged voting system that they are prepared to take you to court, hit you with a heavy fine and screw your credit rating.

Something tells me that THEY are getting more out of this voting nonsense than WE are.

  1. IT DOESN'T AFFECT YOU GETTING CREDIT WITH FINANCE COMPANIES! As a former underwriter I can guarantee you that we are aware lots of people don't register to vote for various reasons. The various credit bureau searches used by finance companies use electoral register info as just one part of confirming residency. Problems will only arise if you do not have a bank account, loan, credit card or mobile phone registered to your address AND cannot provide 2/3 separate items such as utility bill or similar ID in place of the bureau data confirmation. That aside...are they also trying to normalise obtaining credit still?

Very interested to see if the legislation they threaten the fine under is related to the electoral register or if it's a general piece relating to providing information to local Government. I seem to remember a similar threat on the census form which I refused to complete until they sent about 5 people knocking on my door on separate occasions for....I filled it in eventually although I waited until I was very inebriated first...any errors will be the problem of Pierre Smirnoff.

  2. Hi Harry

My simple solution is to register but not to vote. I give a shit about my credit rating, but couldn't give two about voting.

    Never voted in my life.

They're all as bad as each other. I've always said that voting in other parties wouldn't make a blind bit of difference.

A good friend once told me that the word 'Idiot' derives from ancient Greece, and was a term used to describe someone who didn't vote. If that's true, then I am an idiot... and proud of it!

Loving the blog by the way!
